Getting Started with Scratch
Goal: To set up Scratch accounts and get familiar with the Scratch programming feature "loops" or "looping.".
Step 1 1. Have students watch the video below and complete the "Getting Started with Scratch" lesson. 2. Remind students to name their Scratch project as Lesson 1 or Dance and to press the share button which makes it available for teacher viewing. Step 2 1. Direct students to the Vocaroo website. Have them create an audio recording of their responses to the following questions. A) Sprite 1, the cat, used a loop to repeat lines of code. Without the repeat loop I would have had to code _____ lines of code. B)Using the loop feature helps reduce the potential for errors by ______complete this sentence_______? Note: When using Vocaroo, students will need to press "allow" for adobe flash player to begin recording. When saving their audio recordings, direct students not choose any share options! Instead, have them download their recordings as an MP3 file and "save as" lesson 4 in their coding folder. Lastly, have students delete their messages from the internet. Hint: Loops repeat a portion of code a set number of times until a process is complete. Loops help save time and minimize errors. |
